The Pack Group Environmental Policy
1.Purpose
The Pack Group Environmental Policy clarifies the basic approach and stance of the Pack Group toward the global environment in the conduct of its business activities and serves as the basis for the decisions and actions of individual board members and employees. The Pack Group positions this policy as the fundamental guideline on environmental matters and contributes to the realization of a sustainable society.
2.Basic Philosophy
With the aim of realizing its corporate motto—Passionate and Dedicated to Our Partnerships—and its purpose of existence—Mission to bolster social prosperity and create satisfaction through packaging—The Pack Group sincerely recognizes the impact of its business activities on society and the global environment and regards consideration for the environment as a key prerequisite for conducting business activities. The Pack Group considers environmental activities not as mere constraints or costs but as essential elements for achieving a sustainable society and increasing its corporate value, and aims to fulfill its environmental responsibilities.
3.Definitions
The definitions of terms used in this policy are as follows:
(1)“The Pack Group” refers to THE PACK CORPORATION and consolidated subsidiary companies.
(2)“Board members and employees” refers to the directors, corporate auditors, corporate officers, advisors, consultants, and employees (including full-time employees, continuing employees, contract employees, temporary employees, part-time employees, and casual employees) of all companies within The Pack Group.
4.Scope
This policy applies to all board members and employees of The Pack Group. The Pack Group also expects its business partners to understand the intent of this policy and to cooperate in establishing a business environment with consideration for the environment.
5.Conduct Principles
Regarding consideration for the environment as a key prerequisite, The Pack Group hereby establishes the following items as its basic approach to the environment and guidelines for environmental conduct, and shall make its decisions and take action based on this policy:
(1)Energy use and climate change mitigation:
We shall make more efficient use of energy, seek to transition to renewable energy, and continuously reduce our impact on the climate, including our CO2 emissions.
(2)Prevention of environmental issues and pollution:
We shall appropriately monitor and control emissions of pollutants into the air, water, and soil, and shall prevent environmental issues arising from our business activities.
(3)Optimization of resource use and waste reduction:
We shall promote the effective use of raw materials and the adoption of recycled materials, and shall strive to reduce waste generated by our business activities and to ensure appropriate resource use.
(4)Proper management of water resources:
Recognizing the importance of water resources, we shall strive to properly manage water intake and discharge volumes (i.e., by reducing water usage) and to preserve water quality.
(5)Consideration for impact on biodiversity:
In our procurement of natural capital, including lumber and other forest resources, we shall strive to minimize our impact on ecosystems and biodiversity by acting to counter deforestation and by prioritizing the use of certified materials sourced from properly managed forests.
6.Compliance with Laws and Continuing Efforts
Recognizing compliance with environmental laws and regulations and social rules to be its minimal responsibility, The Pack Group shall continuously review its environmental approach in light of international perspectives on environmental issues and sustainability. In addition, we shall periodically review this policy in light of changing social expectations and business conditions related to the environment, and shall continuously enhance our environmental initiatives.
7. Stakeholder Engagement
The Pack Group values its dialogue with stakeholders, including local communities and business partners, regarding environmental issues and opinions, and strives to promote mutual understanding.
8. Education and Awareness
In order to strengthen environmental awareness, The Pack Group provides regular training and education, takes steps to ensure that all board members and employees are aware of this policy, and asks for their understanding and support.
9.Promotion Structure
In order to ensure the efficacy of this policy, we shall develop a framework centered on the Sustainable Committee, under the oversight of the Board of Directors, and promote the enhancement of environmental awareness across the entire Company through each department.
10.Publication
This policy shall be made public both internally and externally.
